Throughout Club Penguin Armies’ decorated history, a large number of departures have been seen. Yet, one thing that can be important is what a person leaves behind. In this post, we will ask community members what they want to leave behind/be remembered for when they leave.
When people leave the community, they often have things they leave behind, like accomplishments, a foundation, etc. Yet, what people leave behind and what they want to leave behind or be remembered for may be extremely different. A great example of this is the “founder” of Club Penguin armies, Oagalthorp. He may not have intended to create a community that would go on to witness hundreds of armies come through its doors, let alone be remembered for it. Perhaps he wanted to form a group of people to play with on Club Penguin to make the game more enjoyable. Despite what he may have wanted, his legacy has been cemented for founding the army community, using miniclip forums to do so. Additionally, his creation of the Army of Club Penguin is also cemented as his legacy.
Not all people leave a legacy as big as Oagalthorp, whose legacy is arguably the community itself. Thus, rather than being remembered for their accomplishments which are often displayed, maybe they would prefer something more important, but less talked about, to be remembered. As members of the community age, one of the things they look back on is a specific army or community. Nostalgia often plays a big part when veterans look back on the past. Memories are filled with moments that make their experience within the community enjoyable. Therefore, instead of what they accomplished, they think about the people around them or the environment created by them or others.
Therefore, what people want to be remembered or want to leave behind may not be limited to visible accomplishments. Instead, what they want to be remembered could be the friendships they made, their presence or even the amount of messages they have sent.
With that being said, Club Penguin Armies approached members of the community to find out what they want to leave behind when they go.
WilliamW2010, SWAT: After my very long (lifetime) time in the community, I want to be remembered for my actions. I’ve already got some stuff planned, for instance, creating paid advertisements for my army. I want to be remembered as the guy who made the wacky future plans, as the guy who wanted to create paid advertisements for his army, as the guy who vowed to be in his army until the day he dies.
Ryebread, Water Vikings: I would definitely want to be remembered as a staple in the S/M community in the CPPS era at the very least. I want people to remember the INFAMOUS Penguins Of Madagascar, the meme army that lasted over a year and placed 3rd in the 2023 Trick or Treat Trials, and semi-finalists in the 2023 February Forte. More importantly, I want to be remembered for my time in the Water Vikings, and a goal for me before I leave is to be one of their Greatest Vikings. I would only feel comfortable leaving the community once WV becomes major again. I want the community to remember tournaments like Around The World Cup, March Madness, and the many projects that CPA has created for this community. If the community were to die tomorrow, one of the things I’d leave behind are the videos on Youtube I’ve recorded for CPA that will stay on the internet forever.
Aisha, Doritos of Club Penguin: It would be nice to be remembered for sure, i think i would just like to be remembered for getting along with everyone really well, and being a huge asset to the community. I’d also like to be remembered as someone who was fun and helped a lot within the community through my position of Head Moderator and army leader!!
FatChicken, Army of Club Penguin: First of all, it’s important to know that I’ve left the community once before (in December 2021) after climbing from ACP Private to Commander-in-Chief. At the time, I never really thought about the legacy I wanted to shape, nor on the way individuals in general would remember me. That is something I partially regretted, but also am proud of. Since I didn’t really focus much on my public image when I led ACP – I’m mostly remembered as “the ACP Leader who maxed 15”. This legacy that I left behind took no account of the circumstances at the time nor goal in mind, neither did it give value to my work as HCom before I led the army. At the time, I didn’t really care… BUT over the years I’ve come to regret not showing more of the internal work I was doing to keep ACP afloat in a dying community.
Although, my legacy was not completely muddied by the misunderstanding of ACPs performance after me. During the times I visited the community, I realized that the more important thing you want to leave behind isn’t your army legacy – but its the memories people have of you. The way you treat them, help them – THIS is what people remembered more. Nobody really cared about my CPA accomplishments unless they came up in a conversation, but people always remembered my interactions with them and the memories we made together .
Back to your question: I recently rejoined the army community due to a sudden increase in free time, among other factors, and this time around I would like to have a better army legacy than I did the first time around. I would like to be remembered for my accomplishments in the community, my achievements in ACP (again), and my skillset when it comes to helping run an army.
However, this is not the main thing I would aim to achieve. When I first joined armies, I was attracted to being active in them because I felt like it was a safe and fun place. What I want to leave behind for what remains of this re-growing community is the same feeling I had when I first joined. The same experience, fun, friend-making, etc. (but without all the shit we all had to endure along the way. I don’t really expect to be remembered for this, but it is more or less the main thing I want to leave behind: Sanctuary.
To better put into perspective what I mean, I’ll quote CPClones creator, Blueswill (thank you ACP Mod Ghostt for showing me this quote): “Ten years from now, people won’t remember what you did or the army’s accomplishments, but they’ll always remember how you made them. Give your soldiers that safe space like they’re with a group of friends that they can laugh with…”
In conclusion, I want to leave behind an experience for others, I’m not really too bothered about my legacy nor about being remembered, as long as others can have the same experience in CPA that I did (the good, and the bad).
Shazam, Doritos of Club Penguin: I want to remember the great things I did while participating in this community. I will probably be remembered as a Vet or by some people but I would like to
Overall, it seems like members of the community have a lot on their minds regarding the future. Some people want to leave a legacy behind them. However, others want those around them to look back and remember their experiences fondly. There is no right or wrong answer to what people should leave behind. Ultimately, it is up to us, in the present, to make our time in the community memorable. This would be not just for ourselves but for those around us. What do you want to leave behind when you leave the community? What do you want to be remembered for?
