The Tale of the Lost Heart follows History, a second sergeant in the Special Forces of Club Penguin, who the legendary Counselor Scars unexpectedly summons to investigate the theft of a Red Stone, an artifact crucial to maintaining order in their society. As suspicion of a traitor within the ranks grows, History and Scars uncover a conspiracy that threatens to tip the balance of power in favor of the chaotic Blue Rebellion.

CHAPTER 5 – scars’ recruit

It was during the early days of the Force. The world was still in that chaotic period when there was barely any social order; temporary community settlements were regularly robbed or destroyed by raiders or other communities, which often weren’t even enemies but were competing to survive.

One day, the fledgling guardians of the Pieces received a report that a village was about to be invaded by armed groups. Scars eagerly accepted the mission to prevent the invasion, but he and his soldiers arrived too late due to an unfortunate miscalculation. By the time they reached the site, the village had already been destroyed. The soldiers searched every house, hoping to find a survivor. But they found nothing. Instead of finding survivors, the mission leader found a void — where there is an absence of light — inside himself.

– How could I let this happen? – he asked himself, kneeling, his head resting on both hands that held his sword against the ground. – It’s my fault, it’s my fault…

Suddenly, the sound of crying from one house caught his attention. Whose could it be? He stood up, ran, and found the only survivor of that misfortune: a poor child crouched in a dark corner of his ruined home, crying.

– Who are you? – asked the then-leader of the Force.

The boy jumped up with a scream.

– Don’t be afraid – Scars reassured the boy. – I’m your friend.

But calming a child who had lost his family, his home, and everything he had was no easy task. Finally, the founder managed to get his name:

– Di… Wix…

Driven by the desire to prevent others from experiencing the same suffering, and inspired by the words of his rescuer, the young boy joined the Special Forces that very day. Scars saw this recruitment as a mission of life and honor:

– I promise I will turn him into the best soldier possible and never make the same mistake again!

However, the counselor never promised to go easy on his recruit. Quite the opposite — when he swore to push Diwix to his full potential, he decided to use any means necessary, even the harshest ones. Imagine waking up buried alive. That’s what happened to Diwix. At first, Scars had to rescue him, but by the ninth or tenth time, he started figuring out how to escape. He was “kidnapped” more than ten times, to the point where he began to stay alert even while sleeping. But as soon as he mastered these and other skills reserved for the best of the best soldiers, his “trainer” made the challenges harder.

– This is how you escape when your hands are tied with ropes, and multiple armed enemies are guarding you! – the founder said after a training session.

– But Your Excellency has made me do this a thousand times! – the young recruit burst out.

– One day you’ll thank me – Scars replied with a smile.

Not only that, in regular training, this recruit had to endure more than the others. If the others did 100 push-ups, he did 200. If every recruit did 50 sit-ups, he did 100, and so on.

– One day you’ll thank me! – he heard almost every day.

The future wasn’t far off. Soon, Diwix stood out as one of the best soldiers in the army. However, to be promoted, he had to work much harder than anyone else. After several years, he reached the rank of captain. But before that, he went through a lot. And he endured. In every physical challenge, he always triumphed. There was only one battle he couldn’t win…

After training sessions in the late afternoon, he would always meet with a young woman, a soldier of the Force, at the cafeteria in our base. It wasn’t him who started the conversation; it was her. The future captain had never had much contact with women. She was known as “Miss Lead,” and liked by everyone, though no one knew where she came from or why she had joined; she had entered without being officially recruited.

Now that everything has passed, it amazes me that things unfolded this way. She was beautiful, everything about her signaled distinction—I don’t know how our soldiers hadn’t noticed her and tried to recruit her. So, it’s no surprise that Diwix fell in love with her.

But Scars was alarmed. Suddenly, his favorite recruit’s performance had worsened significantly. What could be the cause? He — who never missed a deduction — thought carefully and suspected the most obvious change in his behavior. He decided to investigate her.

It was an Autumn sunset. It had been a hard day for Diwix, who headed to the usual spot with his hands bruised and scraped, where his beloved was waiting.

– Scars is too hard on you – Miss Lead suggested.

– Yes, but it’s necessary – the aspiring captain replied. – Without hard work, I’ll never be the best I can be!

She let out a brief, explosive laugh.

– Don’t try to fool me, I know you. I know you’ve had enough, and all you really want is to be a normal person.

After a pause and two hesitations, Diwix said:

– You’re right. I never wanted any of this. What I really wanted was to still have my family and live a simple life as a farmer. But understand, Miss, that all of this is to prevent others from sufferi—

– Are you sure? – she interrupted. – Are you sure it’s to stop others from suffering?

The officer looked at her, shocked.

– In truth, this is just Scars projecting his own traumas onto you. Who else is to blame for your family’s death but him? Wanting to rid himself of that guilt, he took advantage of your fragile emotions to persuade and recruit you. And here you are, believing in what he imposed on you.

The recruit took a step back. That accusation, said so plainly and bluntly, was serious. How could such an innocent figure speak something so terrible about a respected authority?! At first, he denied it:

– That’s not true!

– Deep down, you believe it yourself.

– No, no! – he denied, covering his ears and running out of the cafeteria.

Miss Lead watched his retreat with a slight smile, for she knew she had been heard. It’s true — her boyfriend had heard everything, despite covering his ears. But that wasn’t the reason for her smile. Another person had overheard that conversation: Scars himself, who, hidden, was holding himself back from leaping forward and striking that flawless face.

Everything then went according to her plan. The founder forbade his “almost-son” from dating and meeting with Miss Lead, which was favorable to her plan, as she would know she had won over the soldier if he disobeyed his superior’s rules.

And that’s exactly what happened. Diwix continued to meet with Miss Lead in secret, unable to resist what he called love. The same love — that unites two people into one—was responsible for deepening their intimacy as they grew closer and more open with each other.

It was in this context that, on the brink of winter, during one of their many encounters, Miss Lead said to Diwix:

– You know… you still want to have a family, don’t you?

He nodded. Without a trace of shame, she said, expressionless:

– How about starting a new one with me?

The officer looked at her again in shock (it wouldn’t be the last time). But soon, this surprise turned to joy:

– Oh, yes! That’s what I want most! But there’s one thing I’m unsure about…

– What is it? – she asked.

– You know, they say we choose our spouse, but their family comes as part of the deal… but I’ve never heard anything about yours. Could you tell me more about them?

His beloved then lowered her gaze and, after a long sigh, replied:

– I need to tell you something.

– What?! – he said, wide-eyed.

– Actually… I’m the daughter of the leader of the Green Army.
